Hart & Hickman worked with regionally-recognized developer Crosland Group to address multiple environmental issues at the historic Alpha Mill. Located at the edge of an economically depressed area, local officials were delighted to have such a committed and capable team to build an anchor property to revitalize the area.
Hart & Hickman worked closely with regulators to ensure the clean-up solutions were protective of the future site occupants, and worked closely with the developer's land planners to minimize remediation costs. Innovative remedial solutions included construction of a sub-grade concrete cap over impacted soils, and constructing a raised outdoor common area with low brick seating walls at the perimeter, providing a protective cap between the site occupants and the soils below.
Because the developer was committed to historic preservation at the site and by innovatively integrating the remedial solutions into the site design, the project received the 2007 Adaptive Reuse Project of the Year Award. Hart & Hickman is very pleased to have been an integral part to such a successful Brownfield revitalization project.
