Its that time of year again! EPA will soon be announcing the awards for the Fiscal Year 2011 Assessment, Cleanup, and Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) grants. At the EPA Brownfield conference, recently held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, an EPA representative indicated that they were hoping to have the awards announced by the end of April.
This year was especially competitive. In our Region 4, well over 100 applications were received by EPA - the second highest number of applications for any region. According to this years' EPA grant guidelines, "The total funding available under the national competition for assessment, cleanup, and RLF grants is estimated at $92.9 million. EPA must expend 25 percent of the amount appropriated for brownfields grants on sites contaminated with petroleum. EPA anticipates awarding an estimated 343 grants among all three grant types". This includes an estimated 185 assessment ($52.4 million), 147 cleanup grants ($29.5 million), and 11 RLF grants ($11 million).
