City of

Rome Brownfields

O'Neill Manufacturing Phase II ESA
The City is conducting soil, sediment, surface water, and ground water sampling activities during the month of September 2010.  The assessment is being conducted to determine what the extent of enviornmental concerns are present at the site.  Reports will be a submitted to the City, EPA, and EPD regulators for review.  Although the end use of the property is still unknown, defining the enviornmental concerns at the site is a major step to redevelopment at the site.

Midas Phase II ESA
The City has completed the Phase I and Phase II ESA on the former Midas repair shop.  The reports were submitted to the prospective buyer, who recently finalized the purchase of the property.  The funding provided by the EPA Brownfield Grant to the City greatly facilitated this property transaction.  The former Midas building is currently getting a makeover and will soon be a dry cleaning drop retail location with small offices attached.

Began Phase I ESAs
The City has selected five properties on which to conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) beginning in mid-December 2009.  These properties are predominately privately owned and were selected based on their potential for redevelopment and potential for contamination.  This round of Phase I ESAs was recently completed.

Generic QAPP Submitted
The Generic Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) is a document which describes how soil, ground water, sediment or other enviornmental samples will be collected.  This plan will cover all sampling activities conducted during the grant.  Property-specific sampling requirements will be provided to EPA in addition to this Generic QAPP.  The Generic QAPP is currently under EPA and Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) review.

QMP Submitted
The Quality Management Plan (QMP) is a document required by EPA.  This document describes how the City is going to ensure that the Brownfield grant is managed appropriately and produces quality documents.  This report was submitted to EPA and is currently under review.
