The City of Rome plans to use EPA Brownfield Assessment Grant funds for the environmental assessment and cleanup and redevelopment planning of brownfield properties that will ensure continued forward progress toward the redevelopment of the South Rome Community, as well as other areas of the City. Funds will be utilized to identify, prioritize, and assess brownfield sites within the City.

The approximate 10-acre property is located in northeast Rome and contains numerous structures. Most of the structures are relatively delapidated. The property is currently listed on the EPD Hazardous Sites Inventory (HSI); however, the site is not active. No responsible party (RP) has been identified that is capable of funding additional environmental assessment or remediation. Because no viable RP is present and because the site is in such poor condition, the City of Rome obtained a court order to address phyical and environmental hazards at the site.
